As an Athlete

Special Olympic Samoa Athletes

Athletes are the heart of Special Olympics Samoa. Our athletes are children and adults with intellectual disabilities from all around the country. They are finding success, joy and friendship as part of our national community. They’re also having lots of fun!

Anyone with an intellectual (learning) disability is eligible to participate in the Special Olympics program regardless of age or ability level.

Special Olympics Samoa offers a full range of training and competition opportunities to all people with intellectual disabilities in Samoa. We also have a Young Athletes Program for children aged 2-7 years.

Children and adults with intellectual (learning) disabilities who participate in the Special Olympics sports program develop improved physical fitness and motor skills, greater self-confidence and a more positive self-image. They grow mentally, socially and spiritually and ultimately discover not only new friends, abilities and talents, but their “voices” as well.

Are you interested in becoming a Special Olympics Samoa athlete, or know someone who is?

  1. Contact Special Olympics today and participate in one of our sports programs.
  2. Complete our athlete assessment to identify your eligibility
  3. You could also, go ahead and contact directly your village coordinator who will provide you with more information.

Can I get involved if I am not eligible to become an athlete?

Yes, if you are not eligible to take part in the Special Olympics program because for instance you do not have an intellectual disability or your learning difficulty includes ADHD, dyspraxia or dyslexia we still encourage you to participate in our Unified Sports program as a Unified Partner or you could also become a volunteer.
